Paynter takes second at meet

PITTSBURGH — Homer-Center’s Heather Paynter raced to a second-place finish to highlight the local contingent at the Pittsburgh Central Catholic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

Paynter, a junior, recorded a time of 20 minutes, 39 seconds in the Division ‘B’ girls’ race.

Blairsville’s Taylor Koches (22:40) took 28th place, and Allyson Smathers (23:17) finished 35th out of 79 runners.

The Blairsville boys’ team earned seventh place out of 13 teams with 182 points.

Austin McLean (18:26) led the Bobcats with a 17th-place finish in the boys’ Divison ‘B’ race.

Also competing for Blairsville were Derek Rocks (18:30, 20th); Max Hrebik (20:06, 49th); Ayrton Lamantia (20:12, 51st); Jared Uncapher (20:44, 57th); Zach Plunkett (22:26, 78th); Robert Bell (22:38, 81st); and Josh Ostach (23:43, 87th). There were 98 runners in the boys’ ‘B’ race.

Blairsville, which finished with an 8-0 record in dual meets, travels to IUP for the Indiana County meet Thursday.
