Hospital holding silent auction
October 07, 2013 10:45 AM

Torrance State Hospital is holding its annual silent auction during Mental Illness Awareness Week, which began Sunday, to benefit their Indigent Patient Fund.

This fund provides a small monthly stipend to Torrance State Hospital patients who, because of their mental illness, have no means of income to assist them in purchasing personal items and incidentals. Torrance State Hospital provides treatment to those with mental illness from 14 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The public is invited to bid on items at the former superintendent’s home on the hospital grounds on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. Signs will be posted to direct visitors to the event. Bidding ends at 6:30 p.m.

Items to be auctioned include autographed books, craft items, original artwork, restaurant gift cards, event tickets, jewelry and numerous specialty baskets. Sheetz coupon books will also be available for purchase, as well as many cash and carry items.

For more information about the event or to donate items, please contact Donnalee Fleming, volunteer resource coordinator, at (724) 459-4464.
