Letter to the Editor: IRMC lauds professional police response
October 23, 2013 11:00 AM

Last month Indiana Regional Medical Center experienced two unrelated incidents within a two-week time period that required assistance from regional law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of our patients and staff.

Both of these incidents initially had the potential to have a serious impact on hospital operations. As a result, our security department implemented our emergency operations plan and set up protective measures.

Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police, Indiana barracks, responded. Their response was swift and deliberate, establishing a security perimeter around the hospital and at each entrance.

In both cases additional law enforcement resources were requested, and locally the Indiana Borough and IUP police departments and the county Sheriff’s Department responded and provided assistance.

The cooperation, efficiency and level of professionalism demonstrated by all of them were outstanding. The great police work, led by the state police, ultimately led to a safe resolution of both incidents.

I am writing this letter to publicly express my personal gratitude and that of the entire IRMC family.

We are blessed to have these men and women of our local law enforcement agencies. They respond frequently to assist us in our daily work, but in the two cases recently, they were under great pressure and performed their jobs extremely well.

We are thankful to them and pray that God keeps them safe day in and day out.
