Candidates for the Indiana Area School District board of directors will discuss the issues and their qualifications for the school board at a public forum next week at East Pike Elementary School.
The nonprofit group Indiana Foundation for Education has coordinated the program, which will be moderated by members of the League of Women Voters.
The forum will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the school gym.
“With such weighty issues as grade realignment, pension and health care costs, taxes and upcoming contract negotiations before the board, this election is clearly significant,” a foundation news release noted.
Voters on Nov. 5 will select five people to serve on the school board.
Candidates Deborah Clawson, Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro, Diana Paccapaniccia (incumbent), Walter Schroth (incumbent) and John Uccellini are running for four-year terms on the board. John Barbor is running for a two-year term.
All of the candidates have agreed to participate in the discussion.
Forum organizers will accept written questions from members of the audience, and a LOWV moderator will organize and address the questions to the candidates.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties, and the Indiana Foundation for Education is a nonprofit advocate for educational quality and community growth.
