Residents of Saltsburg and Conemaugh Township no longer need to boil their tap water before using it.
The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, which includes southwestern Indiana County in its 150,000-person service area, has lifted the boil-water order that it issued Thursday.
“Over the past two days, MAWC has conducted test sampling and all test results came back with no indication of bacteria,” authority representatives reported in a news release this afternoon. “Customers may now resume normal water usage.”
The boil-water advisory was posted after an equipment problem at the New Stanton-based authority’s water treatment plant. Officials said customers were advised to boil water as a precaution against possible contamination.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection monitored the situation and agreed with the decision to end the advisory today, the MAWC said.
