The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, John T. Crawford Camp 43, will support the Indiana County Tourist Bureau and the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County at a ceremony to dedicate a memorial honoring the approximately 2,800 Indiana County Civil War veterans.

A life-size statue of a Civil War private atop a barn stone base, the memorial is located on the front lawn of the Silas M. Clark House Post 28 meeting hall, named for a former Civil War veteran. In the traditional style of the Grand Army of the Republic, the dedication ceremony for the “Rest on Arms” Civil War Memorial will be held Nov. 11 after the Veterans Day parade on the front lawn of the Silas M. Clark House at South Sixth Street and Wayne Avenue.

Noted Civil War author Ron Gancas will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony. This nighttime photo of the statue was shot using a time exposure of 10 seconds. (Teri Enciso/Gazette photo)
