ARMAGH — “The Music Man Junior” will be presented at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of United High School, Route 56, Armagh.

In this adapted version of the beloved Broadway classic, when Professor Harold Hill (Jesse Isenberg) comes to River City — boy, ya got trouble!

On the run from the vengeful Charlie Cowell (Joey Naugle) and other angry traveling salesmen, Hill plots with former partner Marcellus Washburn (Brian Stutzman) to convince the townspeople that the answer to the destructive new pool hall is to start a boys’ band, with Hill as its leader.

Hill recruits young troublemaker Tommy Djilas (Dan Rich) to be his first “student.” Hill then turns the squabbling school board members (Alec Wolf, Thomas Schillinger, Conner Rape and Nathan Brown) into a harmonizing barbershop quartet and the town’s chief gossiping women (Grace Weaver, Johanna Knapic, McKenzee Miller and Ally Rape), including the mayor’s wife (Em Rager), into a dance troupe.

Not convinced of his honesty or ability are the tongue-tied Mayor Shinn (Joshua Stewart) and the uptight and unmarried librarian, Marian Paroo (Lilac Brown). Hill enrolls Marian’s introverted brother Winthrop (Joey Means) in the band and helps him to overcome his shyness, which unwittingly becomes the first step to melting Marian’s heart.

When the Wells-Fargo wagon finally arrives in town with the band instruments, Professor Hill instructs the band to use his “Think System” to learn to play. Charlie Cowell also arrives in River City to expose Hill as a fraud. Cowell and Mayor Shinn attempt turn the townspeople into a lynch mob as they continually demand, “Where’s the band?” Watch as Harold Hill directs the “band” that has never actually played a note.
