MARION CENTER — This past week, Marion Center Area High School student council has collected nonperishable food items for the Love Basket Foundation.
The 2013 Love Basket Campaign at Marion Center was coordinated by Alexandra Oterson, a senior and student council member. The campaign kicked off on Nov. 18 and ended today. As of Wednesday, student council had collected more than 500 nonperishable food items.
The last of the items collected have yet to be counted. The homeroom which brought in the most items will be rewarded with a pizza party. The Love Basket Foundation is a voluntary organization whose mission is to provide an emergency food bank for the people of our county.
“The Love Basket Campaign collects nonperishable food items in order to provide a happier holiday season for the less fortunate of Indiana County,” Oterson said.
Any food collected that is not distributed at Thanksgiving or Christmas will be used to provide emergency assistance throughout the year.
Last year, the schools of Indiana County collectively gathered and distributed more than 10,000 food items and were able to provide to more than 700 families. Student council thanks all the students and staff who donated food items to the Love Basket Campaign.
