ICMC, IUP look to collaborate
November 24, 2013 1:44 AM

The Indiana County Manufacturing Consortium November meeting was held at the PA CareerLink, where members met with Dr. Michael Driscoll, president of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Discussion centered on IUP’s role in the local economy.

Part of the new IUP vision includes assessing society’s needs and then addressing those needs.

IUP also wants its students to have interactive learning strategies with hands-on experience, he said. This creates an opportunity for the consortium and the university to collaborate on training the future workforce and at the same time building the local economy.

Members will be working with IUP to set up a retreat in which workforce and economic development issues can be more fully discussed. Other topics of discussion included the following: the Challenger Center, the consortium scholarship for high school students, and updates from members.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 19 as a luncheon.
