PennDOT employees pick up deer from state roadways, both patrolling the area and taking tips from the public about where removal is needed.
According to PennDOT, its workers picked up more than 1,500 dead deer in Indiana County between June 30, 2012, and October 2013.
PennDOT offers the following safety tips:
• Deer are unpredictable. Expect deer to be moving during dawn and dusk hours.
• Turn on headlights. Watch for deer crossing the road near open fields or wooded areas.
• If you see one deer, expect more. Deer travel in herds.
• Tap your brakes and honk your horn to alert other drivers to the presence of deer.
