Man jailed

A New Derry man was jailed Saturday after he reportedly tried to break into two homes along Route 982 and another on Pittsburgh Street.

State police reported David Krumanacker Jr., 41, first attracted attention about 2:30 p.m. when he began yelling at the shrubbery at 5693 Route 982, then hurled a brick through a front window and tried to climb into the house.

The homeowner pushed Krumanacker out, police reported.

When Krumanacker kicked open the front door and entered a house across the road, the homeowner there, too, pushed Krumanacker away, troopers reported.

According to a report, Krumanacker broke a window at a house at 349 Pittsburgh St. just as Derry Borough and Latrobe City police officers arrived and unleashed a K9 dog to help take him into custody.

Krumanacker, of Longview Drive, was charged with two counts each of burglary and criminal trespass and three counts of criminal mischief, and was sent to the Westmoreland County jail with bond set at $15,000. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11.
