WHITE TOWNSHIP: PennDOT to start work on bridge over East Pike in spring

Beginning in March, Penn-DOT will be doing maintenance work on a bridge on Route 119 that crosses over East Pike in White Township, manager Milt Lady reported Wednesday.

The project could include as many as four detours, and each will be in place for up to three days.

The detour route will take drivers to Airport Road, onto Geesey Road, then back to East Pike.

The roads to be used are in good condition and have no weight limits, according to Lady.

“So we don’t have any problems with the detour route they’re providing,” he said.

The project, which will replace parts of the bridge structure, is expected to last one year.

In other business, the supervisors:

• Granted approval to a plan that will vacate and rename a service road near the intersection of Fenton and Warren roads.

Given to the township by PennDOT after construction of the Route 422 bypass, the road is being reconfigured into a cul-de-sac and will be used as a turnaround primarily for plow trucks.

The road, to be renamed Horseshoe Drive, is about 290 feet long with a cul- de-sac about 80 feet in diameter.

With the addition of the cul-de-sac, the township will be able to receive liquid fuel funds from PennDOT for the road, according to Chris Anderson, White Township’s code enforcement officer and assistant manager.

• Moved to sell a number of surplus equipment items, which were auctioned off via an online government auction site.

Items to be sold include a 1993 wood chipper for $5,400, a 1985 tilt trailer for $625, a portable air compressor for $800, a 1993 Ford Bronco for $2,700, plotters and a printer for $100, and a tractor-mounted broom for $100.

The items sold were no longer needed for a variety of reasons, according to Lady, such as being too small to be used with current equipment and being replaced by newer models.
