CLYMER — Clymer Borough Council approved a budget Tuesday that contains a 1 mill tax increase.
The $470,500 budget is an increase of $4,300 over last year’s budget, said Rob Barto, borough manager.
The 1 mill increase was expected and will fund extra fuel for police vehicles in the amount of $2,500 with increased police presence added this year, and an increase of $1,000 to the fire department workers compensation fund.
Millage will be set at 25 mills, and the 1 mill increase will reflect an average $4.99 increase for homeowners.
In other business, council:
• Formalized an agreement with Environmental Planning & Development, a consulting firm working with the borough to initiate form-based codes in the borough.
“Zoning 101” will be presented by EP&D at 7 p.m. Monday.
The public is welcome to attend, and those interested in serving on a future planning commission or zoning hearing board are encouraged to attend.
• Set the meeting schedule for 2014. Meetings will be at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, except for the reorganization meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 6.
• Announced the borough office will be closed between Christmas and New Year’s.
• Passed a resolution to dispose of records from 2006 unless designated a permanent record.
• Reminded the public that sidewalks should be kept clear of snow and ice.
• Will advertise for interested individuals to serve on the Clymer Municipal Authority. Letters of intent should be sent to the borough by Dec. 31. The position will be filled Jan. 6 at the reorganization meeting.
• Will lease from the county two local radios and two handheld radios, which they will own after a period of five years.
