HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: West Shamokin tops Highlands

NuMINE — Zane Clowser and Jake Hough each scored 11 points, and West Shamokin bested Highlands, 54-40, in a WPIAL non-conference boys’ basketball game Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves held Highlands to just four points in the first quarter and raced to a 24-13 lead at the half.

Clowser also had seven steals and dished out six assists. Hough had a team-high six rebounds.

Andrew Brocious and Adam Crise added eight points each for the Wolves.

West Shamokin (6-1 overall, 0-1 conference) will play host to a holiday tournament Friday and Saturday.

• BLAIRSVILLE — Troy Williams scored 30 points to lead Blairsville to a 94-66 win over Northern Cambria in a Heritage Conference boys game that was played Thursday.

Colton McMillan added 23 for the Bobcats (6-0). Jaylin Rydbom added 11 points.

Stingers win Clarion tournament

CLARION — Five Marion Center wrestlers won first-place bouts to help the Stingers win the 22nd annual Clarion Junior High Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Carmen Gett (110 pounds), Charlie Beatty (115), Brandon Parsell (122), Mike Stewart (145) and Brad Smith (185) all won their weight classes for the Stingers, who totaled 58 team points.

John Miller (85) and Mike Turner (105) took second place, Zach Colazzo (145) and Tyler Cover (250) finished third, and Jared Marshall (165) and Aaron Kriley (155) placed fourth.

Marion Center welcomes United on Jan. 7.
