HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: DaBella, Comets pull away for non-conference win
Sarah DaBella came alive in the fourth quarter and scored the bulk of her season-high 24 points to lift Penns Manor to a 56-51 win over Williamsburg in a non-conference girls’ basketball game in Kenwood.
Williamsburg erased a five-point halftime deficit and outscored the Comets 16-9 in the third quarter to swipe a 37-35 lead heading into the fourth.
DaBella scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to help Penns Manor outscore the Blue Pirates 21-14 and pull away for the win. DaBella made 10 of 16 free throws, including 7 of 13 in the fourth quarter.
“She got in foul trouble early in the game so she sat most of the first half,” Penns Manor assistant coach Becca Bowser said of DaBella, who scored 21 second-half points. “In the second half, she just made up her mind that she wanted to win.
“We were in the bonus and we got the ball in her hands a lot, and she just hit her shots at the line.”
Penns Manor’s Mary Roach posted a double-double, collecting 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Penns Manor (2-5) plays host to Derry in the first round of the Penns Manor Holiday Classic on Friday.
