Indiana County’s American Red Cross chapter is about to go through another leadership change, 2 1/2 years after an extensive administrative restructuring of the organization’s Southwestern Pennsylvania Region.
Donna Pacella, the Red Cross community chapter executive directorfor Westmoreland-Armstrong and Indiana chapters, is resigning to accept a position outside of Red Cross in Las Vegas.
Pacella’s final day with the Red Cross will be Feb. 7, according to Lauren Ashley, the Red Cross’ regional communications officer for western Pennsylvania.
Pacella on Sept. 1, 2011, became the community chapter executive of the combined Westmoreland-Armstrong and Indiana Red Cross chapters as part of a reorganization that merged some chapters and consolidated some administrative positions. That restructuring was intended to reduce administrative costs and provide more resources for the organization’s relief mission.
In that reorganization, Kathleen Pino, then the Indiana County chapter’s executive director, lost her job. She had worked in the local Red Cross office 23 years.
Pacella has been with the Red Cross in western Pennsylvania 32 years.
“Donna was an example of a manager positively leading her staff, board and volunteers through the various stages of change that we have worked through,” Patricia Waldinger, CEO of the Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region, said in a prepared statement.
Ashley said the Red Cross regional and local staffs will work to put together a transition plan and hiring plan to choose a successor to Pacella. The selection process will be a collaboration between the chairmen of the boards of directors of the Westmoreland-Armstrong and Indiana chapters and representatives from the Red Cross’ regional and national offices.
Ashley said the Red Cross will be committed to finding the best candidate and the right person to fill the coming vacancy.
