The Indiana boys’ and girls’ swim teams each improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the section by sweeping Derry in a WPIAL Section 4-AA meet Thursday at Memorial Field House. The Indiana boys’ team won, 98-80, and the girls’ team won, 101-80.
Grant Hess won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke to lead the Indiana boys’ team. Hess also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team and the winning 200 freestyle relay team.
The 200 medley relay team included Wei-Wei Wu, Logan Hess and Ben Peng, and the 200 freestyle relay team included John Zarpentine, Dylan Rinehart and Peng. Morgan Madill won the 1-meter dive and posted a WPIAL qualifying score, Logan Hess took the 100 butterfly, Wu placed first in the 100 backstroke, and Joey Churner notched a WPIAL qualifying time in the 200 freestyle.
Sophie Manges and Anna Paccapaniccia each won a pair of events to lead the Indiana girls’ team. Manges won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle, and Paccapaniccia took the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
Manges and Paccapaniccia also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team, which included Anna Manges and Sarah Henderson. Anna Manges added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
STINGRAYS SWEEP HEIGHTS
MARION CENTER — In a meet Wednesday, Marion Center won 19 of 22 events to sweep Cambria Heights in a non-conference meet. The Marion Center boys’ team won, 79-53, and the girls won, 92-70.
Zane Bennett, Mitchell Gordish and Adam Gordish each won a pair of events to lead the Marion Center boys’ team. Bennett won the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, Mitchell Gordish took the 200 freestyle and the 50 freestyle, and Adam Gordish placed first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. The Stingrays also won the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay team consisted of Adam Gordish, Mitchell Gordish, Zach Pounds and Bennett; the 200 freestyle relay team was made up of Richard Ankney, Kyle Anderson, Pounds and Adam Gordish; and the 400 freestyle relay team consisted of Bennett, Mitchell Gordish, Anderson and Ankney.
Kimmi Donaldson, Brittany Gaston and Robin Schultz each notched a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Marion Center girls’ team. Donaldson won the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, Gaston took the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, and Schultz placed first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Alexis Mouser won the 100 breaststroke, and Morgan Tonkin took the 100 butterfly.
Tonkin also swam on both of the Stingers’ winning relay teams, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay team included Schultz, Brianna Adkins and Gaston, and the 400 freestyle relay team included Schultz, Donaldson and Gaston.
