NICHOLAS W. KOSTELLA JR.: There is an answer to our problems
January 29, 2014 11:00 AM

We all must look around at this great country of America. A new year has begun. In what direction is America headed? What has become of our society? Some think we are moving ahead. Some call America’s present direction “progress.” If we, as Americans, look around, what do we see?

We see a great increase in immorality, broken homes, abortion, divorce, addictions of all sorts, drunkenness, sodomy, murder, theft, suicide and a great deal of unhappiness.

I ask, “Is this progress?” No, this is not progress.

What is the answer?

Look at the true history of our nation; yes, there have always been problems. History does reflect true facts, though. The closer America was to God and the Bible, the fewer problems there were and more happiness.

The best answer is found in the Bible:

Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord …” True progress and blessing are found in following God and his son, Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Jesus is the best and only answer.

John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” This that Jesus said is true progress! America’s greatness is being stolen. He came to give abundant life.

Mark 1:15 “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” True progress is turning from sin to a belief in Jesus Christ.

This, my fellow Americans, is the beginning of true “progress.” This is the answer we need. Some may scoff at this answer and some may laugh, but think of the condition of our country at this present time. America will not change overnight, but America can make a great progression by turning back to God and the Bible, one person at a time.
