Eleven local athletes finished with 5-0 individual records Saturday at the West Shamokin dual meet wrestling tournament, and Marion Center took second place in the eight-team event.
The Stingers went 4-1 on the day with wins over Keystone (49-27), Indiana (42-37), Highlands (54-21) and Cameron County (42-36). They fell to eventual champion Cranberry by just six points, 42-36.
Indiana came away with a 3-2 team record by beating Keystone (27-19), West Shamokin (45-36) and Mapletown (48-24). The Indians lost a tight match to Cranberry, 42-36.
The host Wolves won just one match, a 42-41 victory over Highlands. They lost to Cameron County (60-24), Mapletown (47-30), Keystone (42-36) and Indiana.
Marion Center’s Tyler Zapach (106 pounds), David Wiles (120), Brandon Heberling (138), Isaac Stewart (145) and Phil Crook (160) were unbeaten in the tournament.
Indiana’s Ben Turner (126), Kyle Nothnagel (285), Trent Orr (195) and Bobby Bell (160) also went 5-0.
William Hockenberry (106) and Brendan Glover (182) went 5-0 for West Shamokin.
Marion Center (12-11) travels to West Shamokin (5-10) for non-conference match Friday. Indiana (6-11) welcomes Summit Academy on Tuesday.
