The IUP men’s swim team claimed one dual victory in the Crimson Hawk Invitational and finished the day with 25 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying times and one NCAA B mark.
The Crimson Hawks defeated Gannon 248-110 but fell to Bloomsburg 206-169.
IUP’s Chris Strauss won the 500 freestyle and posted a PSAC qualifying time of 4 minutes, 47.68 seconds, and Brandon Hopkins won the 400 individual medley with a qualifying time of 4:19.18. Ben Adams won the 200 butterfly with a qualifying time of 1:57.49.
IUP also won the 400 medley and 200 medley relays behind Paul Singerman, Zach Fountain, Steve Long and Andrew Richey. The 400 team finished in 3:33.05 and the 200 team in 1:36.80.
In the women’s meet, IUP claimed 20 PSAC qualifying marks and one NCAA B mark, sweeping Bloomsburg and Gannon. The Crimson Hawks defeated Bloomsburg 281-102 and Gannon 275-137.
Christina Janosky won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.58, and Allyson Mitidieri won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.87. Taylor Snyder took the 50 freestyle in 24.21, an NCAA qualifying time, and the 100 freestyle in 53.99.
Aniella Janosky finished first in the 100 butterfly at 58.76 and the 200 butterfly in 2:08.19. Dana Steinert won the 200 freestyle in 1:59.26, and Nicole Stevenson took the 1,000 freestyle in 10:53.35.
IUP also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.85), 400 medley relay (4:00.31), 200 medley relay (1:50.38), 800 freestyle relay (8:03.31) and 400 freestyle relay (3:40.70).
IUP competes in the PSAC Championships Feb. 20 to 23 in York.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: Five athletes hit Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks for each the IUP men’s and women’s track and field teams, which competed at the Penn State National this weekend.
Among the women’s qualifiers Friday were Katie Koenig and Steph Beaudette in the 5,000-meter run. Koenig finished 10th with a time of 17:52.21, and Beaudette came in 14th with a time of 18:36.73.
IUP added three more Saturday: Christina Roberson with a 1:01.00 in the 400, Jackie Beisel with a 2:20.19 in the 800 and Samantha Thompson with a 10:10.24 in the 3,000.
Field athletes Jeremy Claypoole and Michael Turner led the men. Claypoole finished with a leap of 13.68 meters in the triple jump, while Turner had a toss of 15.21 meters in the shot put.
Victor Costello and Nick Patton each reached qualifying marks in the 5,000 with times of 8:34.84 and 8:49.16, respectively. Joe Lynch picked up another in the 800 with a time of 1:57.70.
The Crimson Hawks travel to Ohio next weekend for the Division II Challenge at the Spire Institute.
