HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Blairsville gets top seed in district playoffs
The Blairsville Bobcats are No. 1. At least in terms of seedings, they are.
The District 6 basketball playoff pairings have been announced, and the once-beaten Bobcats are the top seed in the girls’ Class AA bracket. They will take on the winner of the Penns Valley vs. Penn Cambria preliminary-round game in the first round.
The Bobcats, who are 20-1 overall and 15-0 in Heritage Conference action, have won 19 games in a row.
Blairsville is one of nine Heritage Conference teams that will be competing in the Class A or Class AA playoffs. Dates, sites and times of District 6 playoff games will be announced later today.
Marion Center (18-3, 14-1), the second-place team in the league, is the seventh seed in Class AA, and will play No. 10 Martinsburg Central in a first-round game.
In girls’ Class A, three Heritage Conference teams have earned playoff spots. No. 9 Homer-Center (9-12) will play No. 8 Juniata Valley; No. 10 Saltsburg (8-10) will play No. 7 Williamsburg; and No. 4 United (12-7) takes on No. 5 Bishop Carroll in first-round action.
On the boys’ side, Homer-Center (18-2) has earned the No. 3 seed in Class A, and the Wildcats will play No. 6 Claysburg-Kimmel. Saltsburg (8-9) is the No. 8 seed, and the Trojans will play No. 9 Saint Joseph’s in a play-in game, with the winner taking on No. 1 seed and unbeaten Bishop Carroll.
In Class AA, No. 8 Marion Center (13-6) plays No. 9 West Branch, with the winner getting a date with No. 1 Richland; and No. 5 Blairsville (16-2) plays No. 12 Juniata.
