IUP BASKETBALL: Crimson Hawks to play in tournament opener

IUP will play the first game in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region basketball tournament Saturday at East Stroudsburg.

The Crimson Hawks (23-4), the third seed, will play West Chester (20-9), the sixth seed, at noon in the first of four games that day. West Liberty (second, 26-3) follows against Glenville State (seventh, 18-10) at 2:30 p.m. In the evening session, Gannon (fifth, 19-9) plays Charleston (fourth, 21-8) at 6 p.m. followed by top-seeded East Stroudsburg (28-1) against Livingstone (eighth, 21-7) at 8:30.

The winners advance to Sunday’s semifinals, which are set for 5 and 7:30 p.m. The championship game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The region champion advances to the Elite Eight, which will be held in Evansville, Ind., beginning March 26.

Online ticket information will be available beginning Wednesday on East Stroudsburg’s website, www.esuwarriors.com. Tickets for each of the two sessions Saturday are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets for Sunday’s session are the same price. Tickets for the championship game are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. An all-session pass is $50.
