AARP Evergreen Chapter 2581

The AARP Evergreen Chapter 2581 recently held its April meeting.

Members were greeted by Floyd and Ruth Spence and Tom and Joan Boske. Bob Whitmer said the blessing before the luncheon.

President Marvin Sheffler called the meeting to order. The AARP motto, “to serve, not to be served,” was recited.

Theresa Cole gave the invocation, “A Jelly Bean Prayer.”

Members stood to pledge the flag and to sing “God Bless America” led by Bruce Jenkins.

Anniversaries for April were recognized. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

Committee reports were given. There were 37 members present. Membership is 194. Vice president Helen Whitmer thanked members for the luncheon donations.

Judy Bash reported the trip to Shanksville will leave at 8 a.m. on May 17. Anyone interested can call her at (724) 349-3625. The legislative report was given by Jack Stile.

The annual picnic will be at Mack Park on June 17. Tickets will be available at the May meeting. For more information, call Helen at (724) 463-7448.

Bruce Jenkins gave a report of the state of officers for 2014-15. Installation will be held on May 20.

June Stewart of the VNA provided the program.

Elks Ladies Auxiliary 931

The Elks Ladies Auxiliary #931 Indiana held its monthly meeting on April 3 with President Linda Malin presiding. Chaplain Sabina Fiala read the opening prayer. Ways and Means chairwoman Connie Minich announced Bar Bingo will be held May 15. Come and support the fundraiser.

Scholarship Chairwoman Sandy Shaffer stated she sent out the bakeless bake sale letters to the members for the scholarship fund. Magazines for the hospital and coupons for the army commissaries are still being collected. Barbara Norland, chairwoman of the covered dish dinner, invited all members to attend the dinner on May 2 at the Elks Lodge. Make your reservations by Thursday by calling Barbara at (724) 465-5747.

Malin gave her farewell, stating she had a wonderful year and met so many new people. She thanked all the officers and committee chairwomen for helping her throughout the year and also the new friends she made and to all the members who attended the meetings. She received an Elks emblem necklace from the auxiliary.

Installation of officers was held by Paula Burnett, installing officer, with Cherise Cunningham and Debby Stolitza as installing conductresses. Installed were Vice President Letty Calvetti, Secretary Lavelle Bothel, Treasurer Connie Minich, Inner Guard Betty Cook, Chaplain Sabina Fiala, Conductress Sherry Tedeschi, Assistant Conductress Tiffany Buffone, flag bearers Rosetta Jobe and Marlene Buggey, and Parliamentarian Lavelle Bothel.

Patricia Moorhead will be installed as president at the May meeting.

Celebrating April birthdays were Betty Cook, Rosetta Jobe and Tiffany Buffone.

The windfall winner was Twila Montgomery, and she donated back to the auxiliary. The door prize winners were Debby Stolitza and Paula Burnett.

Trivia was played and enjoyed by all.

Next month’s meeting will be the covered-dish dinner at 6 p.m. May 2.
