HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Ligonier Valley cruises to victory

Ligonier Valley plated four runs in every inning to ease by host United, 16-1, in a Heritage Conference softball game that was shortened to four innings due to the mercy rule Wednesday.

Hannah Yeskey went 3-for-4 with a double and eight RBIs to lead Ligonier Valley. Courtney Frappier finished 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Kailee Lear tossed a two-hitter to get the win. She struck out five and walked none.

Ligonier Valley (7-3, 6-2) travels to Plum on Saturday, and United visits Purchase Line on Friday.


BURRELL 16, WEST SHAMOKIN 2: Visiting Burrell amassed 16 hits, including five doubles, and shut down West Shamokin en route to a win in a WPIAL Section 3-AA game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

West Shamokin (2-7) plays host to Shady Side Academy today.


FORD CITY 15, APOLLO-RIDGE 2: Visiting Ford City outhit winless Apollo-Ridge 11-5 and scored seven runs in the seventh inning to coast to a win in a WPIAL Section 3-AA game.

Dana Speranza singled, tripled and drove in a run for Apollo-Ridge, and Alexis Tantlinger smacked a single and drove in two runs.

Apollo-Ridge (0-9) plays host to Deer Lakes today.
