IUP beat Bloomsburg 14-9 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse match Wednesday at Miller Stadium to finish the regular season 12-4 and match a school record for wins before the playoffs.
The Crimson Hawks are 10-2 in the conference.
Making its third straight appearance in the PSAC playoffs, IUP earned the No. 3 seed and will face either West Chester or Bloomsburg in the opening round of the conference tournament Tuesday.
Pine-Richland product Drew Hayden scored five goals in Wednesday’s win to increase her single-season school record to 61.
Kim Hooven, Michelle Zakrzewski, Brittney Palardy and Amy Weinberg added two goals apiece, and Sarah Ward had one. Weinberg added four assists to set the single-season school record with 49. Becca Vogt (2011) and Lodovici (2013) shared the previous mark with 46.
SOFTBALL: IUP clinched a PSAC playoff berth with a doubleheader sweep of Clarion at Podbielski Field, winning 6-2 and 9-2.
After missing the conference playoffs last season for the first time since 2009, IUP secured the No. 2 seed in the West Division in the eight-team tournament, which begins May 1. The PSAC reverted to the two-division format this season. The previous five seasons, the conference used three divisions — East, Central, West — for softball only.
One of the top offensive teams in the conference, IUP didn’t much look like it Wednesday. The Crimson Hawks mustered just four hits in each game, but they benefited from four errors in each game to overcome their offensive woes.
