HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Ream guides Indians to bounceback win over Yough

Trent Ream stood out at the plate and on the mound, and Indiana defeated Yough, 6-3, in a WPIAL Section 2-AAA baseball game Thursday afternoon in Herminie, bouncing back from a disappointing loss to first-place Laurel Highlands.

Ream finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. He smacked a two-run triple as part of a three-run fifth inning that gave the Indians the separation they needed. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out three and walking two in five innings.

“That really broke it open for us,” Indiana coach Ryan Davies said of the triple. “That was a big hit in a big situation to get those guys in. He had a really big day.”

Ryan Creps went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Zach Schultz tossed two innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.

Indiana improved to 8-6, 6-3 in the section. It welcomes Mount Pleasant on Monday.

“It was a fun game,” Davies said. “Guys came back with a little chip on their shoulder after that loss. It was good to see some excitement.


NORTHERN CAMBRIA 18, PURCHASE LINE 3: Northern Cambria made quick work of a Heritage Conference game in Purchase Line, defeating the host Red Dragons in four innings due to the mercy rule.

Joe Olish and D.J. Olenchick each had three hits for the Colts, and John Hornick clubbed two doubles and drove in four runs. Josh Prasko scored three times.

Prasko, Joe Frontino and Mac Novella also managed two hits in the shortened contest. Olish and Zach Lieb both had triples, and Olenchick and Adam Weiland had doubles.

Austin Tibbott earned the win, striking out two and walking seven.

Darren Bingaman scored two runs for Purchase Line.

Evan Ober took the loss, with no strikeouts and two walks.

Both teams play Monday. Northern Cambria (9-3, 8-1) welcomes Blairsville, and Purchase Line (1-10, 0-9) travels to Harmony.


MOUNT PLEASANT 7, DERRY 6: A five-run seventh inning sank Derry in a WPIAL Section 2-AAA game in Mount Pleasant.

Derry held a 6-2 lead entering the final inning, but gave up five hits and committed two errors, and the Vikings scored their first section victory.

Johnny Panizzi smacked a double, and Luke Ridilla, Cameron Gerhard and Connor Wege had two hits each for the Trojans.

Wege pitched five clean innings, holding Mount Pleasant to one run on four hits, striking out four and walking three. John Garufi took the loss with two strikeouts and no walks in 1 2-3 innings.

Derry (6-6, 4-5) visits Uniontown on Monday.
