MEETING: The AARP Evergreen Chapter #2581 will meet at the VFW at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Annual dues will be collected. Picnic tickets will be available for purchase and installation of the 2014-15 officers will take place. The Indiana County Humane Society will provide the program.


POKER RUN: The Homer-Center Public Library is hosting its sixth annual Bicycle/ Run/Walk Poker Run on Sunday, July 13, on the Hoodlebug Trail.

The Poker Run is a 12-mile bicycle ride or a 5K walk/run. Each participant will stop at stations to draw a card for their poker hand. The top three hands in each category will receive prizes.


MEMORIAL SERVICE: The Indiana County Peace Officers will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sovereign Grace Church, Indiana. Light refreshments and a reception will follow the service.

SUPPER: The Dayton District Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Spring Thresherman’s Supper on Thursday at the Dayton Fire Hall, Dayton.

The cost is $8.50 for adults and $4.25 for children 12 and younger.

Takeout is available for $9.


BREAKFAST: An Election Day all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage meal will be served from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday May 20 at Brush Valley Chapel on Route 259 between Brush Valley and Yellow Creek State Park.

Pancake varieties will include regular, blueberry, chocolate chip or buckwheat.

The cost is $8 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 4 through 12. Children younger than 4 eat for free. The meal includes a beverage and dessert.

Takeout is available. Proceeds will benefit the Brush Valley Lutheran Cemetery Association and the Brush Valley Chapel.


FUNDRAISER: The United Music Boosters will hold a Night at the Races fundraiser event beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Brush Valley Fire Hall.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first race begins at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets are $25 and attendees must be at least 21 years old to attend.

The $25 donation includes ownership of one horse and two admissions for the buffet dinner and entertainment. An additional $10 donation provides ownership of another horse, and these tickets will be sold at the door.

The first 100 ticket sales may name their horse. Strip tickets and 50/50 tickets will also be available.

A total of 10 races and an auction stake race will be held throughout the night. Horse owners do not need to be present to claim the first-place prize money if their horse wins its race.

Proceeds will benefit the Boosters’ 2015 Disney trip.


MOTORCYCLE RUN: The Pennsylvania State Police’s Motorcycle Run will be held Sunday, June 1, beginning and ending at Lenape Vo-Tech, Ford City.

Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m., and the nonstop ride begins at 11 a.m. Free food, beverages and entertainment will follow at around 1:30 p.m. for all registered participants.

Registration is $20 for a bike and driver or $10 for a passenger on a bike and can be done at the event or prior to the event by visiting www.campcadet.com. Riders and passengers who register before the event will receive a free ride pin.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, June 8.


FOOD DRIVE: A food drive benefiting ICCAP will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Indiana/Franklin Masonic Lodge, 42 S. 11th St., Indiana.
