First-place Bovard jumped out to a 5-0 lead and handcuffed visiting Blairsville en route to a 6-0 win in an Indiana County League baseball game Sunday.
The Bison used three base hits and three walks in the bottom of the third inning to score four runs and extend their lead to 5-0.
Winning pitcher Greg Martin struck out 10, walked four and allowed three hits in 5 1-3 innings. Zak Zimmerman struck out two, walked none and allowed two hits in 1 2-3 innings of relief.
Zack Martin led Bovard by going 2-for-2 with a solo homer, two RBIs and three runs scored. Sam Mattei and Steve Zerbini each singled and drove in two runs.
Ryan Bernat went 3-for-4 to pace the Colts.
Losing pitcher Scott Harsh struck out six, walked four and surrendered four hits and four earned runs in three innings.
Bovard, which swept Blairsville in last year’s league championship series, has outscored the Colts a combined 16-4 in two games this season. The Bison beat Blairsville, 10-4, on May 20.
Both teams play Tuesday. Blairsville (4-2) welcomes West Lebanon, and Bovard plays host to New Derry.
APOLLO 6-0, WEST LEBANON 3-12: Visiting West Lebanon bounced back from a loss in Game 1 and racked up a season-high 14 hits to blank Apollo in Game 2 of a doubleheader.
Apollo raced to a 4-0 first-inning lead and surrendered just seven hits en route to a win in Game 1.
Brody Bieda went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for West Lebanon in Game 2. Pascual Matos went 3-for-3, Shane Wingard and Tyler Beitel each singled twice, Matt Szukics singled, drove in two runs and scored three runs, and Matt Rebyanski singled and drove in two runs.
Winning pitcher Garret Mack struck out five, walked three and allowed two hits in five innings. Mack also singled twice and drove in two runs. Garry Wurm allowed one hit in one inning of relief.
In Game 1, Apollo got on the board first by scoring four runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batsman in the bottom of the first inning.
Apollo tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend its lead to 6-0.
Ryan McGonigle doubled twice and drove in two runs to power Apollo. B.J. Bowser singled twice and drove in two runs.
Mike Bier struck out six, walked none and allowed seven hits in a complete-game win.
Szukics went 3-for-4, and Mack homered, singled and drove in two runs.
Beitel took the loss. He struck out six and walked four in four innings.
West Lebanon visits Blairsville on Tuesday, and Apollo (1-8) travels to Bovard on Thursday.
