The IUP women’s basketball team will play 26 regular-season games in the 2014-15 season, with 13 teams set to visit the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.
In addition to the 22 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games, IUP will play four non-conference games, with two of those coming at the season-opening Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament, hosted by West Chester.
That tournament takes place Nov. 14-15, with the Crimson Hawks playing University of the Sciences on Nov. 14 and Concordia (N.Y.) the following day. IUP opens its home schedule Nov. 18 against Ohio Valley, and will also play host to Shepherd (W.Va.) on Nov. 26.
The PSAC schedule tips off with a game at Seton Hill on Nov. 22.
The Crimson Hawks will play 10 of their games before winter break, with home games against Mercyhurst (Dec. 3), Gannon (Dec. 6), Mansfield (Dec. 16) and Lock Haven (Dec. 17). The second part of the year gets going with a road trip to PSAC East opponents East Stroudsburg (Jan. 3) and West Chester (Jan. 4) before the Hawks return home to welcome Cheyney (Dec. 7).
Second-half home opponents include Edinboro (Jan. 14), Pitt-Johnstown (Jan. 21), Seton Hill (Jan. 31), California (Feb. 4) and Slippery Rock (Feb. 18), with the regular-season finale coming against Clarion (Feb. 25).
SOCCER: IUP has been picked to finish ninth in the PSAC preseason women’s coaches’ poll.
The Crimson Hawks finished last year 10th in the PSAC with an overall record of 9-8-1. They return two starters including top scorer Brittney Kuhns.
Slippery Rock garnered 11 first-place votes to come up at the top of the poll. Defending conference champion California had four first-place votes, and West Chester is in third with one first place vote.
IUP begins its season on Sept. 4 with a home PSAC match against Lock Haven at 4 p.m.
