ERIE (AP) — A constable from northwestern Pennsylvania has been charged with rape after authorities said he coerced a woman into sex by impersonating a police officer.
The Erie Times-News reported Stephen Chamberlain, 36, was arrested Friday.
Authorities said Chamberlain met a woman who advertised with an escort service. They said he claimed to be an undercover detective, displaying a badge, handcuffs and gun. Authorities said he threatened to arrest the woman for prostitution unless she agreed to sexual favors.
The charges are based on three alleged incidents in Erie County.
The woman eventually contacted police.
Chamberlain serves as a constable in Crawford County.
