A social-media based community group has arranged for a public salute to Indiana Area Senior High School graduates to follow the limited-access commencement ceremony scheduled for Friday evening, June 5.
Local emergency services crews will join the graduates in a crosstown motorcade allowing families, friends and other area residents to cheer the Class of 2020 as they make one last drive through the grounds of their alma mater.
The motorcade will form at the R&P parking lot off Maple Street on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus and move out at approximately 9 p.m., escorted by Indiana Borough police along a route from Maple to South 13th Street onto Oakland Avenue, South Ninth Street, Philadelphia Street and North Fifth Street.
Seniors are urged to decorate their cars and those along the route are encouraged, within social distancing and other safety and health guidelines, to show their support for the graduates as they conclude their pandemic-interrupted final year of school.
With Indiana Fire Association trucks and Citizens’ Ambulance Service vehicles in the procession, seniors will drive a final loop around the high school parking lot and exit the school grounds.
Organizers of the Indiana County Adopt-A-Senior group on Facebook arranged the motorcade with encouragement and support of Indiana Area School District administration, the borough police and IUP.
