Coroner announces congressional bid
NEW PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan said he’s running for Congress.
The (Pottsville) Republican-Herald reported that Moylan announced Sunday at the Cancer Survivors Celebration of Life at the Simon Kramer Institute that he will seek the Republican nomination for the 17th congressional district next year.
The district has been redrawn to include Schuylkill and parts of Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe and Northampton counties.
Moylan said he discussed his candidacy for former Rep. Tim Holden, a Democrat. Scranton attorney Matt Cartwright defeated the 10-term Holden for the Democratic nomination in April 2012 before defeating Republican candidate Laureen Cummings in the general election.
