Pennsylvania bar takes Stabile to task

on November 02, 2013 10:29 AM

HARRISBURG (AP) — The Pennsylvania Bar Association is taking the unusual step of asking a judicial candidate to take down a TV ad.

The group’s judicial campaign advertising committee said Friday that Vic Stabile, the Republican nominee for Superior Court, has refused to take down the ad even though the committee concluded he violated a pledge not to make misleading statements.

In Stabile’s ad, a narrator says his Democratic opponent — Allegheny County Judge Jack McVay Jr. — got court jobs for his fiancee and his sister-in-law.

McVay’s campaign spokesman, Marty Marks, said McVay disclosed his relationship when the women were hired. He said McVay hired his sister-in-law because of her experience in child welfare cases and wasn’t involved in his fiancee’s hiring at all.

Stabile says he stands by his ad.
