Pipe break causes sewage to leak
VALLEY FORGE (AP) — A broken sewer main has closed all of the roads that run through Valley Forge National Historical Park and caused thousands of gallons of raw sewage to leak into a creek.
Park rangers and police said water from the broken sewer main pushed through Route 23 in the park around 11 a.m. Tuesday and spilled off the side of the road.
The state Transportation Department said 5,000 gallons of sewage per minute are leaking into Valley Creek, which feeds into the Schuylkill River.
Public works officials expect sections of road in the area to be closed for several days while construction crews repair the damaged water main and resurface portions of the street.
Park officials said all roads that run through Valley Forge National Historical Park are closed.
