GLEN CAMPBELL — A late-night call from a man stating he was lost in the woods in state gamelands near Glen Campbell prompted a fruitless search late Friday by area volunteer firefighters and state police at Punxsutawney.

State police said this morning that Clearfield County’s 911 center received a call at approximately 9:50 p.m. from an unidentified male stating he was lost in the woods.

Troopers said the last known location of the cellular device put that man in State Game Lands 262 west of Glen Campbell in Grant Township.

State police said a thorough search of the area was conducted, which failed to locate the caller.

According to Indiana County Emergency Management, a search detail was assigned to Spotts Road in nearby Banks Township, first involving Glen Campbell Volunteer Fire Company, followed by Rossiter and Big Run volunteers who were on standby, then assigned to the search.

Early today, Big Run firefighters posted on Facebook their appreciation that Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department’s K9 search team assisted in the search, as did Elk Run Volunteer Fire Department, which provided a light tower.

They said the search went on until 3 a.m., after which things were to be re-evaluated for possible resumption of the search later today.
