SPRING CHURCH -- On April 25 the Apollo-Ridge Elementary student council took its annual field trip to PNC Park for a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game.

The Pirates were having Student Council Day to honor student council members from area schools. Chad Danka, student council sponsor, along with Janie Fryer and Tara Young were chaperones.

This trip has been in the planning for months. We began by selling dips in order to raise money for the tickets to the Pirates game and other school activities. Our ticket included a free Pirates baseball cap.

The Pirates played the Colorado Rockies. Some student council members caught baseballs that were thrown into the stands by players.

One of the members who caught a special ball was Carli Myers.

She was a little disappointed she didn't get a ball but knew there was still time left in the game.

Carli saw a ball hit by Pedro Alvarez that was coming straight at her.

The ball fell onto her seat, but Sidney Shaeffer picked the ball up and gave it to Carli. On the bus we all thanked Sidney for her kindness.

This was an exciting day for all student council members. Even though the Pirates lost 2-1, it was the first Pirates game for some of the members, so it was a great day.
