HARMONY: Students ready for holiday
WESTOVER -- Both the elementary and high school bands and choruses performed at Harmony's annual Christmas concert Thursday. They performed a number of Christmas tunes, including favorites like "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and classics such as "Marshmallow World." With the show being so close to Christmas, it gave everyone a break from various Christmas activities to listen to some wonderful music.
This week, musical auditions took place for the 2013 musical, "Seussical," in which Jojo, a child with a wild imagination, meets the Cat in the Hat, who whisks him away into the beloved story of "Horton Hears a Who." Filled with Dr. Seuss's colorful characters and creativity, "Seussical" is sure to be a fun show for all ages.
To audition, students had to sing a song from a Broadway musical and say a monologue. All of the students are anxious to see what parts they get.
Amie Breth, the first-grade teacher, paired up with her church and the elementary to do Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse. Each elementary student brought in an item, such as toys, hygiene items, etc., to pack in a shoe box and send to a child who needs those items. If you include your address, the child may even write back! Overall, the elementary filled 16 boxes to send. Now they are waiting to see where their packages went in the world. The elementary will be having their "Snowflake Ball" today. Students wore fancy clothes and were invited to dance and sing in the cafeteria. After enjoying cookies and milk, there will be an early dismissal.
Merry Christmas from the Harmony Area School District.
