MARION CENTER: Holiday festivities are already under way
MARION CENTER -- Marion Center Area Senior High School is always bustling with activity around the holidays. Various clubs, sports and groups are busy doing things within the school and the community.
On Tuesday, the junior and senior high concert and jazz bands held their annual Christmas concert. The high school concert band played selections that included "Sleigh Ride" and "Stars and Stripes for Christmas," while the junior high concert band played songs such as "Rising Star." The high school jazz band teamed up with the junior high jazz band to play a selection titled "Holiday Jam." The senior high jazz band then played "Clocks" and "Favorite Things."
Today, students involved in Marion Center's Future Business Leaders of America chapter went to the Rayne and McCreery elementary schools to read to the younger students. Most students took some of their favorite children's books to read, as well as giving the students they were reading to the option of choosing some books of their own. The high school students took small groups of elementary students and read to them for about half an hour. Reading Day is always a favorite with both the high school and elementary students.
Next Tuesday, the junior and senior high choral ensembles will be holding their annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Some of the senior high selections include "Baby, It's Cold Outside," "O, Holy Night" and "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas."
The women's choir will be performing "The Christmas Song" and the select choir will be performing "Carol of the Bells." The public is welcome and encouraged to attend!
Members from the chorus will be going Christmas caroling to local nursing homes over the next few weeks after school on Dec. 13, 19 and 20. The homes they plan to visit are Crystal Waters, Mulberry Square and Rose Haven. Caroling is always enjoyed by the residents and students alike.
The high school student council is in the process of holding its annual Twelve Days of Christmas activities leading up to the holiday break. Theme days began Thursday with the theme of candy canes. Some of the other themes include Christmas Sweater Day, Lumberjack Day, Christmas Character Day, Jingle Bell Day and Santa Hat Day. There are rewards for participating in the themes on certain days.
The students of Marion Center are keeping busy this holiday season and invite the public to the chorus concert on Thursday in the high school auditorium. Admission is free.
