KENWOOD -- It's that time of year again, time for the Penns Manor High School musical to come to life. This year the club will be running under a new adviser, Rebecca Lingenfelter, a 2005 graduate of Penns Manor.

Mrs. Lingenfelter is no stranger to Penns Manor's Fine Arts Department. During her high school career she participated in County Chorus, County Band, District Band, Regional Band, IUP Honors Band, jazz ensemble, brass ensemble, concert band and marching band. Her participation in the fine arts was highlighted in 2004, when she served as drum major.

She went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, studying flute under Dr. Therese Wacker and Vincent DuBeau as well as performing in the IUP Concert Band. In 2009 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, in addition to a minor of studies in flute and music. She went on to serve as province officer for Sigma Alpha Iota -- International Music Fraternity for Women, supervising chapters in western Pennsylvania from 2009-2012.

The first meeting was held on Nov. 14, during homeroom, for all students interested in participating in the musical. Mrs. Lingenfelter and Paul Rode ran the meeting, discussing past officers and possible fundraisers, and then asked for input for the upcoming show.

The second meeting was held on Nov. 19, where officers were elected and the show announced. Abby Weaver was elected president, vice president went to Alexa Sichko, Nikki Decker is the new secretary and Maddy Spiaggi is the treasurer. Mrs. Lingenfelter announced this year's show to be "Little Women."

"Little Women" is a newer show, released on Broadway in 2005. The story follows four sisters -- Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March -- as they grow up in Civil War America. Adapted from the classic novel "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott, this performance is sure to be a hit.

When asked about the upcoming musical, Mrs. Lingenfelter said, "I am so excited to have the opportunity to direct the musical this year. I am looking forward to working with the students and Mr. Rode.

"As an alumnus it is exciting to be on the other side of things, working with the talent Penns Manor has to offer. I am especially excited about the show, 'Little Women,' since it is newer. Overall, I am thrilled to work with the students on this show, at my alma mater."

The Penns Manor Fine Arts Department will also be hosting its annual holiday concerts.

The high school concert band and vocal ensemble are set to perform on Monday at 7 p.m. There will also be an elementary concert on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.

Both concerts have free admission and are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
