SALTSBURG: Variety of activities held to wrap up first quarter
SALTSBURG — Concluding the first quarter, activities at Saltsburg Middle/High School include first report card distribution, student report from a school board conference, yearbook pictures and picture make-ups, Josten’s representative visit, Red Ribbon Week, the Saltsburg Halloween Parade, fundraisers and Story Hour at the Saltsburg Free Library.
The first nine weeks will end on Wednesday and report cards will be sent home with students on Nov. 6. Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Nov. 7 and 8.
Steven Richards, senior school board representative, attended the Pennsylvania School Board Association Conference in Hershey last week.
When asked his thoughts on the conference Richards said, “The conference provided me a unique opportunity to gain insight on the responsibilities of state school boards as well as the details on making and upholding school policies. The most interesting part was obtaining knowledge on how other schools across Pennsylvania function and operate.”
On Tuesday, senior personality pictures were taken. These pictures of selected seniors, voted for by their classmates, will be featured in the yearbook.
Also, underclassmen pictures of those absent or of those needing retakes were taken on Wednesday to be displayed in the yearbook.
Attention to those who are graduating: a Jostens representative will be visiting Saltsburg Middle/High School on Monday for a cap, gown and senior memorabilia presentation.
The representative will return Thursday to take orders.
Don’t forget to celebrate Halloween. For those who like a good scare, the Saltsburg Marching Band and Saltsburg Volunteer Fire Department will be featured in the Saltsburg Halloween Parade.
This event will take place Wednesday. Fire trucks, music, costume contests and fun will begin at 7 p.m. on Salt Street in front of S&T Bank.
This year Red Ribbon Week will take place from Monday to Nov. 1. Students are encouraged to participate and dress up according to each day’s theme.
This year’s motto is “Life’s a journey, travel drug free.” Monday is Tourist Day; Tuesday is Red, White and Blue Day; Wednesday is Wild West Wednesday; Thursday is Where’s Waldo Day; and Friday is Red Out Day. Red Ribbon Week is a fun way to encourage students to live drug free.
Just a reminder, yearbook club’s hoagies will be delivered on Thursday. Please remember to pick up your orders at the high school between 2:30 and 3 p.m.
Also, Pampered Chef fundraiser orders for the junior class are due Tuesday to Mrs. Coulter.
Any children in preschool to second grade are invited to enjoy Story Hour at the Saltsburg Free Library. Story Hour will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Stop in for some spooky story fun.
