Bruce A. “J.R.” Clawson, 87, of Bolivar, passed away at home on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019.
Born June 7, 1932, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Alfred Bruce Clawson and Florence Hannah (Miller) Clawson. He was also preceded in death by brothers Robert and Raymond Clawson and sister Grace Showman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ginger (Stewart) Clawson; sons Keith W. Clawson and wife Linda, Monroeville; and Kirk Clawson, Lancaster; grandchildren Brandi Clawson, Deltona, Fla.; Kayla Clawson, Lancaster; and Kirk Clawson Jr., Mount Joy; and sister Doris Barron, Mechanicsburg.
J.R. was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean era serving in Alaska and was a member of the Bolivar American Legion Post 128. He retired from Operating Engineers Local #66 and was a local excavator who enjoyed his work. J.R. also enjoyed wintering in Florida, going to NASCAR races and dirt track racing, watching Steelers games and especially spending time with his grandchildren. The Clawson family would like to express their sincere gratitude to VNA Hospice for their care and support.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bolivar United Presbyterian Church, 712 Lincoln St., Bolivar, PA 15923. Pastor Jim Suneri will officiate. Inurment will be in Armagh Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow in the basement of K&K Flowers, 736 Lincoln St., Bolivar.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either Bolivar U.P. Church or VNA Hospice 850 Hospital Road, Indiana, PA 15701.
