Clair Edward Troxell Jr., 87, of Tifton, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at his residence.
A private graveside funeral service was held for Mr. Troxell on Friday at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton, where he was laid to rest. The Rev. John Hughes officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were Wilbur Webb, Bobby Miles, Bill Johnson, Ken Strickland, Raymond Cook, Ronald Hand, Rayburn Martin, Gene Seigler, Deryck Perkins and Don Furguson.
Born Nov. 9, 1932, in Homer City, Mr. Troxell was the son of Clair Edward Troxell Sr. and Virginia Troxell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Faye Davenport Troxell, to whom he was married for 58 years.
He was retired from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Tifton. He was an active member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where he served on the properties committee, was an usher, worked in security and was very active in Vacation Bible School. In the 1950s, he played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization and he was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Troxell is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ed III and Leslie Troxell, of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Ginny and Earl Pafford, of Tifton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Regis and Mary Anne Troxell and Jack Troxell, all of Homer City; one sister, Rita Troxell Jones, of Homer City; and two grandchildren, Molly Pafford Richardson and husband Drew; and Eden Troxell.
