Emmett Kirk “Butch” Welty, 74, of Altoona, formerly of Clymer, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg.
A son of John M. and Helen C. (Steinbrenner) Welty, he was born Jan. 13, 1945, in Pittsburgh.
Butch was a graduate of Carrick High School, Class of 1962.
After graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force. A Vietnam veteran, he served from July 1962 until July 1966 and left the service with the rank of A2C (E-3).
He married Judy C. (Greene) Welty on July 6, 1968.
His work as a truck driver led to a 20-year career with 7-Up and 10 years of employment with Coca-Cola before he retired in 2007.
Butch loved sports. He particularly enjoyed following the Pittsburgh sports teams.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy, of Altoona; his two children: Rachael R. Biddle (Joseph), of Altoona; and Brian J. Welty (Stefanie), of Williamsport; his grandson, Joshua Biddle; and his brother, John Welty (Diane), of Washington, Pa.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Ann Welty.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rairigh Funeral Home Ltd. in Hillsdale, where a funeral service by Dr. Douglas Greene will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.
Interment will follow in Ruffner Cemetery in Clymer.
