James Eugene Sturgeon, 71, of Clymer, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at the Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings.
Born Nov. 14, 1947, in Indiana, he was a son of John Edward Sturgeon and Dorothy L. (Ashbaugh) Sturgeon.
Jim was a graduate of Penns Manor High School and The Salvation Army Seminary in Suffern, N.Y. He ministered for The Salvation Army in New York for several years. Jim returned home and worked as a coal miner at Greenwich Collieries.
He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps, served three years during the Vietnam War and was a veteran of combat.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting and gardening. He raised apple, peach and cherry trees and could often be found tending and caring for his fruit trees. He also raised various shrub trees.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jalon Faherty (Jonathan), Tarpon Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren: Victoria Diller; and Hailie, Ethan and Emily Faherty; siblings Carol Miles (Earl), Blairsville; Richard Sturgeon (Shirley), Penn Run; John Sturgeon, Clymer; Duane Sturgeon, Clymer; Janet Stumpf (James), Shelocta; Ronald Sturgeon (Janice), Starford; Timothy Sturgeon (Deb), Appomattox, Va.; and Mark Sturgeon (Donna), Clymer.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his nephew, Lee Sturgeon.
The Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer today hosted visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a funeral service by the Rev. Robert White.
Interment with military honors will be at the East Mahoning Cemetery, Purchase Line.
