John E. Gaff Sr.

John Edward Gaff Sr., 76, of Shelocta, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 24, 1942, to Margaret R. (Beatty) and Charles W. Gaff Sr. in Mount Union.

John resided in the Shelocta area since 1969. He worked 32 years as a boilermaker for Local Union 154 until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, going for car rides, boating and camping. He loved his Pepsi and coffee and truly adored his grandchildren. John could often be found in his power chair traveling around Elderton. He will be lovingly remembered as a quiet guy with a strong work ethic who could light up a room with his smile.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to VNA Hospice and the special caregivers over the years.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, June D. (Miller) Gaff; two daughters: Tammie Downey and husband Jeff, of Plumville, and Dana Brandon and husband Greg, of Indiana; grandchildren Carissa (Brad) Burns, Chase Downey, Carson (Kelli) Downey, Brenson Gaff, Kyler Gaff, Ethan Brandon and Zoe Brandon; great-grandchildren Cecilia Burns and Maddie Downey; a brother, Bernard E. Gaff, of Elderton; and a sister, Darlene Park and husband Bill, of Thompsontown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Edward Gaff Jr., who passed away on May 3, 2017; and two brothers, Charles W. Gaff Jr. and Richard P. Gaff.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home Inc., 238 S. Main St., Elderton.

Additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Chaplain Lori Parks of VNA Hospice officiating.

Interment will be in the Elderton Cemetery, Elderton.

Arrangements are being handled by the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.
