Richard Elliot Adam “Rico” Ondo, 66, of Homer City, passed peacefully on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, due to complications from pneumonia at Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1953, and was preceded in death by his parents George and Ethel Ondo; brothers Edward and Michael Ondo; brother-in-law Jeffrey Mayes; and nephew Frank Benavidez.
He is survived by sisters Suzanne and Georgette (husband Brian); sisters-in-law Becky (husband Bernie) and Marlene; nephew Greg; nieces Heather, Holly and Hillary; great-nephews Justin and Dominick; great-nieces LaVada and Zoey; and many cousins and committed friends.
As an abstract juried artist of paint and sculpture, he exhibited in such places as Marco Island and Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.; Manhattan, N.Y.; and Indiana, Pa. He was owner of a landscaping and excavating business. As an avid fisherman, he enjoyed deep sea fishing, and was a hunter and studied taxidermy. He attended Kent State University on a scholarship for track and field, and studied forestry. He was a member of the Homer City American Legion and a contributor to Doctors Without Borders and The American Cancer Society.
His interests included gardening, hiking, skiing, horseback riding and chronicling life events through sketching volumes of original art.
He will never be forgotten for his unique creativity, wry humor and unparalleled zest for life. He had a kind heart and he will be sadly missed by family and many lifetime-committed friends.
An honorary tribute for him will be planned for the spring months, and will be announced when plans are finalized.
