Ruth C. (Strong) Clevenger, 85, of Penn Run, died Friday, July 12, 2019, at Bethany Place Residential Care.
Born Sept. 23, 1933, in Cherryhill Township, she was a daughter of Charles Strong and Goldie Brendlinger. She was the wife of Alex Clevenger, whom she married Sept. 1, 1956; they were married for 62 years.
Ruth worked at Robertshaw, Indiana, for many years and on the family farm in Penn Run. She loved spending time on the farm and tending to her vegetable garden. She also enjoyed baking cookies, making Easter eggs and watching the horses run on the farm.
She was a member of Penn Run Church of the Brethren.
Ruth is survived by her children: John C. Clevenger and his wife, Vickie, of Penn Run; Shari R. Sleppy and her husband, Ray, of Penn Run; and Timothy E. Clevenger and his wife, Tracey, of Clymer; seven grandchildren: Ashley Mathews, Joseph Sleppy, Adam Clevenger, Stephen Sleppy, Tyler Clevenger, Amy Clevenger and Nicholas Clevenger; and three great-grandchildren, Owen and Abel Mathews and Jase Clevenger.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Mark Clevenger and her siblings Robert Strong, Edward Strong, Charles “Buster” Strong Jr., Sarah Stupic and Jean Zagurskie.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home in Clymer, and at Penn Run Church of the Brethren on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of the funeral service with Pastor Jeff Fackler.
Interment will be in Brush Valley Chapel Cemetery.
