Sherrie (Rummel) Denney, 56, of Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at UPMC East, Monroeville.
She was born Sept. 23, 1962, in Indiana.
She was a member of the Summit Church, Indiana. She had worked at Torrance State Hospital as a psychiatric aide. Sherrie was a 1980 graduate of Blairsville High School. She was attending Westmoreland County Community College before her illness, where she was on the dean’s list working to obtain her nursing degree. She was a social member of the VFW Post #5821 and the Blairsville Eagles #1488. Sherrie was a diehard Steelers fan, enjoyed going to concerts, watching scary movies and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her mother, Karen Sherman, Blairsville; father, Jack Rummel and wife, Dorothy, Homer City; daughters Shawna Cody Washington and husband, Zane, Bartlesville, Okla.; and Shanie Denney, Blairsville; grandchildren Fallon and Gracen Washington; sister Lori Ewing and husband Don, Blairsville; brother, Jason Rummel, of Oklahoma; and also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ben and Dot Crede, and paternal grandparents, Sheldon and Thelma Rummel.
In keeping with Sherrie’s wishes, there will be no viewing. The family will receive friends at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., Blairsville, on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. A celebration of Sherrie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Richard Motzing will officiate. The family requests that you wear your favorite Steelers gear, if possible, to the service.
