Wilmer E. Johnson, 101, of Indiana, died with his family at his side Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at Communities at Indian Haven.
A son of Linus and Ellen Gustafson Johnson, he was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Indiana.
Mr. Johnson lived all his life in the Indiana area. He graduated from Indiana High School then served his country in the Army Air Corps in New Guinea and Australia. Mr. Johnson was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of Indiana VFW Post No. 1989. He worked for REA as their bill manager, served for 25 years as office manager for Troutman’s and helped at White’s Variety Store, which the family owned. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two children, Bruce A. Johnson and wife Shirley, of Indiana, and Debra L. Heggenstaller, of Indiana; two grandchildren, Kristin Johnson and Daniel Heggenstaller and wife Emily; a great-grandchild, Hannah M. Heggenstaller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris Frew Johnson; one brother, Paul Johnson; and two sisters, Hattie Johnson and Ruth M. Johnson.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held by Pastor Tedd Cogar at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded by Indiana VFW Post No. 1989.
