Holuta wins second minor league event

PARKLAND, Fla. — Matt Holuta, an Indiana native, birdied all four par-5 holes Monday at Parkland Country Club en route to his second victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.

Holuta birdied the pars 5 — 1, 9, 13 and 18 — and also birdied the par-4 fifth for a 5-under-par 67.

He earned $1,000 from the $6,010 purse. Holuta won his first MLGT start in May 2018 at The Evergreen Club in Palm City, Fla.

Michael Graboyes, of Watchung, N.J., was second among 44 starters with a 68. He received $650.

Two more 18-hole tournaments are scheduled this week: Wednesday at Wellington National Golf Club and Friday on the course at Fountains Country Club.

Indiana crushes Sewickley on ice

PITTSBURGH — Indiana beat Sewickley Academy, 11-2, in a PIHL interdivision hockey game at the RMU Island Complex on Monday.

Indiana led 10-0, and eight players scored and 10 had assists.

Korbin Wilson, Orlando Clark and Danny Williams each scored two goals. Zak Wood, Henry Wolfe, Zach Eisenhower, Owen Lydick and Michael Castro scored one goal apiece. Tanner Agnello handed out three assists and Daniel McAnulty, Lydick and Adam Ball each had two. Clark, Wilson, Eisenhower, Sebastian Sedan, Ben Nettleton and Castro each had one assist.

Seamus O’Connor and Ethan Agnello shared time in goal and combined for 13 saves.

Sewickley Academy fell to 0-18.

Indiana (9-6-3) plays at Fox Chapel on Feb. 18.   

Indiana girls win Hess Invitational

Indiana led the team standings and the boys finished second in the Mark Hess Memorial Invitational swim meet at IUP’s Memorial Field House pool on Saturday.

Indiana scored 304 points, topping second-place Mount Pleasant by 14 in a 12-team field. Indiana suffered a rare loss in a section meet against Mount Pleasant last week.

Parker Fanella led Indiana with first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:57.76) and 100 backstroke (59.53). Posting new WPIAL qualifying times were Ceci Sherwood in the 100 breaststroke and Abby Killam in the 100 breaststroke.

The Indiana boys won two individual events and two relays. Cole Thome won the 200 individual medley (2:03), and Kevin Zheng won the 50 freestyle (22.39). Kyle Thome, Zheng, Issac Griffith and Cole Thome teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:39.15) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.53).

The boys totaled 221 points and finished second behind Clearfield (278) in a 15-team field.

Indiana Youth Legion sets registration

SALTSBURG — Registration for the Indiana County Youth Legion S.W. Jack Drillers baseball team will be held Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bullpen Sports Club, 602, Kolter Drive, Indiana.

Registrants must be no younger than 13 and no older than 16 years or age as of as of Dec. 31, 2020.
